db launches The Master Winemaker 100

The drinks business has published a new guide, The Master Winemaker 100, a publication that celebrates the top 100 winemakers behind some of the world’s award-winning wines.

This new 250-page guide shines a light on the talented people who work in the vineyards and cellars – the creatives, scientists, mavericks and dreamers at the pinnacles of winemaking, who craft class-leading products. These names have one thing in common – they’ve all achieved our ultimate accolade, winning a Masters medal in the drinks business’s Global Masters tasting series.

We’ve scoured through the results of the drinks business’s Global Masters Series, looking for those wines that have topped the tables for noble grape varieties, major wine styles and notable regions to produce a list of the top-performing properties, and then profiled the most senior winemakers there, who was responsible for creating the medal winning wine.

The list is a novel collection rather than merely a list of well-know personalities in the industry, but they have all made a wine great enough to excite our exacting panels of judges, who almost exclusively hold the toughest qualification in the trade: the MW.

The Global Masters

The Global Masters series comprises three types of competition, each a small, standalone blind tasting that enables the judges to focus on a particular style, grape or region. Firstly there are Masters dedicated to a particular grape variety, from Chardonnay to Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir to Grenache. Second, they are those covering a major wine style, from rosé to sparkling, organic to fortified, and finally, the series focuses on notable regions, from Tuscany to Champagne, Rioja to Prosecco.

The intention of our blind-tasting competitions has always been to do more than promote delicious blends and brilliant domains – it also yields in-depth analysis on the category from highly experienced judging panels, and make winners out of winemakers.
