Johnnie Walker releases new ‘ghost’ edition in HK

Johnnie Walker has announced the limited release of Blue Label Ghost – Rare Glenury Royal in Hong Kong, the third in the series of special releases using “ghost” whiskies from a small number of iconic distilleries that closed many years ago.

At the heart of the new whisky is malt from Glenury Royal. Founded in 1825 by Captain Robert Barclay – a member of the British Parliament and the first man to walk 1,000 miles in 1,000 hours –  it was destroyed by a devastating fire early on, fortunately under Barclay’s tenacious leadership, it flourished to become one of only three Scottish distilleries to enjoy a royal title. However, the distillery was finally forced to close to its doors in 1985.

To complete the blend, master blender Jim Beveridge and his team handpicked two exceptionally rare whiskies from the “ghost” distilleries of Cambus and Pittyvaich, perfectly balancing their creamy toffee and butterscotch notes with the orchard fruits, sweet apple and apricot character of Glenury Royal.

Five other rare whiskies from Glen Elgin, Inchgower, Glenlossie, Cameronbridge and Glenkinchie are also present in the blend, bringing waves of vanilla, heather honey and dried fruits as well as smooth dark chocolate and nutty layers.

Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Glenury Royal is available in Hong Kong from this November at RRP HK$2,988 a bottle. Each bottle in this special release is individually numbered.
