Montes becomes Wines of Chile president

Aurelio Montes Sr. has been named as the new president of trade association Wines of Chile during the most recent annual assembly.

Montes will remain in the post until 2021 during which time he will continue to pursue the association’s ‘2025 strategy’, push Chile’s premium image and attracting new consumers.

Montes said: “I am so proud to be given this responsibility and I am very excited”.

Montes is very well known in the Chilean industry not only as a founding member of Viña Montes but also for his success in growing export markets.

A graduate of the Catholic University of Chile his first job in the industry was as winemaker at Viña Undurraga for 12 years before he set up Viña Montes in 1988.

He has previously served as vice-president of the National Society of Agriculture and Wines of Chile between 2013 and 2015.

Montes will be supported in his role by vice president Mario Pablo Silva of Viña Casa Silva.
