Glenfarclas whisky distillery announce cocktail competition

Scotch distillery Glenfarclas has launched its first ‘105’ Cask Strength cocktail competition, asking bartenders to create a serve for its consumer-focused events throughout the year.

The competition, launched on April 15 2019 (the 105th day of the calendar year), is to create a replicable cocktail that can be showcased at future Glenfarclas events, including the Festival at Cheltenham Racecourse in March.

Entrants are required to whip up a cocktail recipe including at least 35ml of Glenfarclas ‘105’ Cask Strength, as well as up to six other ingredients, excluding garnishes.

The focus will be on Scotland, with heats held in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen. Bartenders can submit their ideas for a signature serve using Glenfarclas ‘105’ Cask Strength.

10 leading entries from each of the regions will be invited to compete in a heat, which will be judged by a panel including representatives from Pol Roger, Glenfarclas and Bramble Bar, Edinburgh.

Two finalists from each heat will then travel to Speyside for the final at the distillery, where company chairman John Grant will crown the eventual winner.

The winning bartender will score a 3-day apprenticeship at the distillery and a limited-edition bottle of Glenfarclas, and will see their cocktail presented as a ‘signature serve’ at several Glenfarclas events in the coming year.

The name refers to the strength in the British Proof system, equivalent to 60% alcohol by volume.

Recently, the whisky distillery unveiled 60 complete sets of its Family Cask series, spanning 1954 to 2003, for £100,000 each.

The collection contains 50 200ml bottles, covering every single malt spirit in the Family Cask collection that has so far been released.
