Bancroft adds Barossa’s Glaetzer to portfolio

UK distributor Bancroft Wines has added Barossa Valley winery Glaetzer to its growing Australian portfolio, becoming the exclusive agent for the producer in the UK from mid March.

Winemaker Ben Glaetzer

Originally from Germany, the Glaetzer family settled in Australia in the late 19th century and were some of the earliest recorded viticulturalists in the Barossa Valley and Clare Valley.

The family-owned winery was founded in 1995, and is focused on the production of super-premium, site-specific red wines made in small volumes.

Wines produced include the brand’s Amon-Ra Shiraz and Anaperenna Shiraz/Cabernet Sauvignon blend.

“As we expand our Australian portfolio, we are carefully seeking out producers who are the absolute benchmarks of their appellations,” said Bancroft Wines CEO Jon Worsley. “Glaetzer has long represented the pinnacle of terroir-driven, quality focused Barossa winemaking, and we couldn’t be prouder to work with Ben and his team.”

Winemaker Ben Glaetzer sources all fruit from the northern sub-region of the Barossa, Ebenezer, which is known for its ancient dry-grown vineyards, from 80 to 110-year-old, non-grafted bush vines.

“We have over a 20 year proud history in the UK where we have established strong relationships, and the UK market is very important for us,” said Glaetzer.

“Glaetzer is about to embark on an exciting new era of growth and we are delighted to be partnering with Bancroft Wines in the UK on this journey”.
