NZ Winegrowers to hold annual tasting at the Royal Academy

New Zealand Winegrowers is holding its annual new release tasting at the Royal Academy on 30 October to coincide with the gallery’s Oceania exhibition, marking 250 years since Captain Cook’s first voyage to the Pacific.

This year, the self pour tasting will showcase 119 wines from 33 producers and feature 17 different varieties and styles from across seven wine regions.

NZ Winegrowers will organise the tasting by style, variety, region and vintage.

New to the line-up in 2018 is a table dedicated to ‘unsigned talent’ in the form of four producers that are seeking representation in the UK. For the first time, there will also be a preview for sommeliers the night before the main event on Monday 29 October between 7pm and 9pm.

Rebecca Gibb MW is also due to present an overview of this year’s vintage conditions across each of the country’s regions at 12pm on Tuesday.

The main event will take place on Tuesday 30 October in The Fine Rooms at the Royal Academy, from 10am to 4pm.

As part of the tasting, guests will gain access to the Oceania exhibition, which showcases 200 works from public collections worldwide, and spanning over 500 years.

Chris Stroud, Europe marketing manager for New Zealand Winegrowers commented: “The New Release Tasting is one of our most popular tastings allowing guests to taste and evaluate the latest releases of New Zealand wines. It is fitting to hold the event this year in association with The Royal Academy and the Oceania exhibition, where so many treasures were brought back from Captain’s Cooks voyages”.

“New Zealand wines continue to perform strongly in the UK and with such a wide range of varieties and styles available, this tasting offers an excellent opportunity for anyone who may be seeking New Zealand wines to add to their portfolios and wine lists”.
