Mayfair gets a new fine wine shop

A new independent fine wine shop and bar is set to open inside Mews of Mayfair, a four-floor restaurant and bar space in a cobbled courtyard close to Bond Street.

Château Latour 1990 will be on pour at Mews Wine Shop

Located inside an 18^th century muse house, Mews Wine Shop will sell and serve fine and rare wines by the glass and bottle from a constantly evolving list.

Offering wines from both the Old and New World at a broad range of price points, among the older vintages of Bordeaux on pour will be: Château Haut Brion 2005, Château Lascombes 1996 and Château Latour 1990.

Burgundy lovers can get their fix via the likes of Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru Faiveley 2005 and Domaine Chandon de Briailles Corton-Bressandes Grand Cru, Cote de Beaune 2005.

Also on pour will be Rene Rostaing Ampodium, Côte-Rôtie 2009, which can be enjoyed alongside cheese platters from Paxton and Whitfield and charcuterie.

Catering to both experts and amateurs, you’ll also be able to find Eben Sadie’s rare white Palladius and Collumella, a Rhône-style blend considered to be one of South Afrcia’s best wines.

Another quirky wine on pour will be Els Jelipins, a minimum intervention red from Penedès made with Sumol and Garnacha made by Glòria Garriga, who only produces 2,000 bottles a year and hand paints symbols on every one.

“The world of wine is often thought of as elite and unapproachable. At Mews we wanted to break down that barrier and open that world up to a wider audience,” said Derryn Nel, COO of Mews of Mayfair and former manager of Angela Hartnett’s Merchant’s Tavern.

“You will be able to buy a selection of our rare wines by the glass, which in other places, you would find sold only by the bottle,” he added.

On Friday 9 November the shop will be holding a raffle to win a bottle of Château Latour 1982.

In addition to the wine shop, Mews of Mayfair boasts a brasserie, pizzeria, courtyard bar, cocktail bar and late night lounge.
