Santa Rita scores a hat-trick with third Bloom win

Chilean wine brand Santa Rita scored a hat-trick this week after being awarded its third gold medal in a row for its show garden at Bloom flower show in Dublin.

Rudden’s gold medal-winning Life is Rosé garden at Bloom

Created by Dublin-based landscape garden designer Alan Rudden, the Santa Rita Life is Rosé garden not only scooped a gold medal, but also a Best in Show planting award.

“I’m absolutely delighted with this win and am looking forward to bringing this garden to England in July, when we are exhibiting at Hampton Court Flower Show in the Show Gardens of the World category.

“I think my successes are down to my genuine passion for garden design and my expertise in knowing what works from a practical perspective,” Rudden said, who found inspiration for the garden during a trip to the Santa Rita estate in Chile.

Some of the colours in his winning garden were inspired by the hues of the Chilean landscape and the earthy tones found in the Santa Rita vineyards.

“The concept behind this year’s garden was to create a contemporary space with a Latin American feel and Mediterranean influence. The garden is tranquil, secluded and, most importantly, it is a beautiful space to relax,” Rudden said.

During Bloom, which takes place at Phoenix Park in Dublin until 4 June, Santa Rita are launching two new wines: Santa Rita Rosé and Early Harvest 120 Sauvignon Blanc, and are giving visitors the chance to taste them.

“Our horticultural link goes back to the Santa Rita estate in the Cabernet Sauvignon producing region of Maipo, where our Casa Real manor house and 40-hectare park is found,” said Terry Pennington, Santa Rita’s commercial director for Europe.

“The house is surrounded by ornate gardens and parklands, which are regularly opened up to the public, schools and local communities. Bloom in the Park is a great festival and winning our third gold medal in three years is a fantastic result,” he added.

Bloom is Ireland’s largest gardening festival with over 100,000 visitors a year.
