BBR adds more Scotch to portfolio

UK merchant Berry Bros & Rudd has announced a new global distribution agreement with new wave Scotch distillery Daftmill.

Founded in 2002 by Francis and Ian Cuthbert, the distillery produced its first spirit in 2005.

It is one of only nine Lowland distilleries – it is located on the Daft stream in Fife, near Cupar – the distillery is also one of only two in Scotland that can use the term ‘single estate’ as all of the barley used to produce the whisky is grown by the family on their estate.

Doug McIvor, reserve spirits manager at BBR, said: “What I find so appealing about Daftmill is their unique and traditional seasonal production cycle which is led by Francis’ quiet periods on the farm. I also believe their sole use of the estate’s barley gives Daftmill’s whisky a real sense of terroir and true provenance. I’m confident that the spirit’s subtle Lowland charm will put Daftmill (and Fife) firmly on the whisky map.”

Daftmill owner Ian Cuthbert added: “Daftmill is pleased to appoint Berry Bros & Rudd as global distributor and we look forward to releasing the first single malt to the market place in the near future.”

BBR recently upped its stake in US distillery Anchor Distilling as well.
