The City Wine Show to host unmissable masterclasses

The City Wine Show will host a selection of unmissable masterclasses this Friday 22 September, with Pinot Noir, Prosecco, Champagne and Carmenere all set to feature.

The line-up kicks off with ‘Pinot Noir – Around the world in six wines’ at 4pm, presented by db‘s editor-in-chief Patrick Schmitt MW. The masterclass will take the form of an introduction to one of the world’s most sought-after yet frustrating grapes, exploring how even experienced winemakers struggle with this temperamental variety.

At 5:15pm, Prosecco takes the stage in a masterclass entitled ‘Giusti – Prosecco…Desire and the Evolution of Sparkling wine in Italy’, presented by the owner of independent drinks merchant Drinks Lover, Riki Hutchinson. Hutchinson will examine why the UK fell for Prosecco and will look at what other sparkling wines from the country that are yet to be truly appreciated in Britain.

After Italy it is the turn of France, with James Simpson MW, managing director of Champagne Pol Roger, presenting a masterclass on Sir Winston Churchill’s favourite house at 6:30pm. Consisting of a tasting of six wines from Pol Roger, three of which will be vintages, the masterclass will allow attendees to taste different Champagnes side-by-side in order to properly understand both the production and ageing process.

Last, but most certainly not least, it is Chile’s time to shine, with Johnny Bingham of Jackson Nugent Vintners giving a masterclass entitled ‘Casa Silva – Pioneering Cool Climates and Carmenere in the Colchagua Valley’ at 7:45pm. Bingham will present the story of the five generations of the Silva family behind the eponymous winery, growing vines in one of Chile’s most promising wine regions.

Masterclasses are free of charge but are subject to availability. For the full list, please click here.
