Rise in searches for Figeac

Right Bank estate Figeac has seen a significant jump in searches for its wines on Liv-ex so far this year.

Liv-ex has recently released a list of the 50 most searched for wines on its exchange so far this year and, although the first growths top the list, Figeac is the label to have seen the biggest rise in searches.

Taking data compiled from January to July, Liv-ex reports that Figeac has climbed 26 places to the 18th spot on the list.

Other strong risers so far this year have been Canon (which rose 24 places) and Rauzan-Ségla (17 places) both properties owned by Chanel and which have had very strong en primeur sales in recent years.

Montrose meanwhile rose four places to sixth on the list making the Saint-Estèphe second growth the most looked-for wine outside of the first growths.

Estates seeing declining searches were ‘Eglise-Clinet (which slipped 15 spots), Pape-Clement (down 12 places) and Duhart-Milon (declining six).

The table of 50 wines was absolutely dominated by top flight claret but there were a few non-Bordeaux labels in there too.

The highest ranking of these was Super Tuscan Sassicaia in 27th place, although it has slipped five places since the end of July in 2016. It remains the 10th most traded fine wine label by volume in the first half of this year on the other hand.

Louis Roederer’s Cristal was the 42nd most searched-for wine (down four spots) and fellow Champagne Dom Pérignon was up 15 places with the 46th most searches.

The only Burgundy on the list interestingly was Domaine de la Romanée-Conti’s La Tâche, which was up two search spots from 2016 to 45th place.
