L’Imperatrice announces annual portfolio tasting

A number of top producers will be in Hong Kong for L’Imperatrice’s annual portfolio tasting next month, including Anne Gros, Benjamin Leroux and Remy Poisot.

Hosted on Thursday, 9 March at the historic Liang Yi Museum in Sheung Wan, the walkaround tasting will include over 150 wines from 41 renowned Domaines, including Leroy, Cecile Tremblay, Patrick Piuze, Groffier, Gros Frere & Soeur and Denis Mortet.

A number of Burgundy and Champagne producers will also be in town, such as Anne Gros, Benjamin Leroux, Alexandre Chartogne, Gilbert Felettig, Olivier Collin and Remy Poisot who will join L’Imperatrice’s annual Paulée dinner at the Four Seasons the day after on Friday, 10 March.

Julien Froger, the managing director of L’Imperatice commented on the tasting, saying: “Alongside the famous names of Burgundy like Cathiard, Groffier and Leroy, this is an exciting opportunity to discover the new stars of Burgundy, like Leroux, Mikulski and Hubert Lamy whose reputations have skyrocketed these past years.

“We spend much of our time seeking out the next big thing in French wine, so we’re looking forward to sharing these wines with enthusiasts in Hong Kong, as well as with the winemakers themselves. Having the opportunity to meet and taste the wines of Anne Gros who is ranked at the top of pyramid of Vosne Romanee wines, is of course an added bonus!”

Traditionally held to celebrate the end of the Burgundy harvest, the Paulée dinner will also give Hong Kong’s wine lovers a chance to sit with the winemakers and discover their differing approaches to winemaking and also their impressions of the much-anticipated Burgundy 2015 vintage.

Froger continued: “The Paulée is totally unique unto itself. Guests will be dining with Champagne and Burgundy winemakers, offering them the best possible insight into the updates of these regions, straight from the source.  It also grants unprecedented access to the winemaker’s backgrounds.  Alexandre Chartogne and Olivier Collin both trained with the master Champagne grower, Selosse, and it is fascinating to see how it has affected both of their approaches today.  The Paulée is a rare opportunity to experience firsthand, the wine soaked culture of France.”

On Friday before the dinner, there will also be two Champagne masterclasses with Olivier Collin of Ulysse Collin and Alexandre Chartogne of Champagne Chartogne-Taillet from 1.30pm-3pm and 3.30pm-5pm, and a Burgundy masterclasses which focuses on the 2015 vintage which will be led by Anne Gros, Benjamin Leroux, Henri Felettig and Rémi Poisot and will start from 2.30pm-4pm.
