Zachys closes 2016 with ‘triumphant’ HK sale

Zachys’ last Asia sale in Hong Kong ended on a high note, with a strong bidding presence from Japan and Petrus commanding the top four lots.

Top trumps: 1990 Petrus came out as the highest selling lot

The auction realised HK$30,658,933 (US$3,955,991) in total and highlighted top quality Bordeaux and Burgundy, including Pétrus, Mouton Rothschild, Lafite Rothschild, Henri Jayer, Rouget and Armand Rousseau.

The top two lots were two 12-bottle cases of Petrus 1990 which went for HK$343,000 (US$44,000) each, which was closely followed by two 12-bottle cases of Petrus 2010 which sold for HK$269,500 respectively and placing in the third and fourth top lots.

A case of 12 bottles of Mouton Rothschild 1918 and nine bottles of Lafite Rothschild 1982 also went over their high estimates, as well as two lots of 2005 and 2008 Domaine de la Romanee Conti Montrachet.

Hanyu Ichiro’s Malt Card Full House series also fetched HK$208,250 (US$26,847), proving the thirst for premium Japanese whisky is still strong.

Zachys also reported a strong bidding presence, both internationally and locally with Japan showing particular enthusiasm.

The final 2016 Zachys auction of 2016 will take place on 2 and 3 December in New York and will feature lots directly from the cellar of Bordeaux négociants, Nath. Johnston & Fils.
