Christie’s HK ends year on high note

Christie’s latest Hong Kong sale realized over HK$55 million with a vertical of Mouton Rothschild and DRC 1988 storming ahead in the lead.

Held over 25 and 26 November, the last sale in Asia for Christie’s saw competitive bidding from an international base with bidders from Asia being extremely strong.

The Gentleman’s Collection realised HK$30,098,373 (US$3,897,518) which sold 82% by lot and 38% of lots exceeding the low estimate.

The top lot for this sale was the rare vertical collection of Château Mouton Rothschild from 1945-2005 which fetched HK$612,500 (US$79,314).

Christie’s second sale on 26 November, the Exceptional Private Collection, realised HK$25,198,618 (US$3,263,036) and was sold 95% by lot with Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Romanée-Conti 1988 commanding HK$1,347,500 (US$174,491).

Tim Triptree, head of sales said: “We are delighted to have achieved such pleasing results on the back of the Christie’s 250th anniversary global celebrations in Hong Kong.

“Bidding was determinedly dynamic over these two days, which saw strong participation from international clients, especially from Asia.

“The strong sell-through rates once again demonstrate the importance of Hong Kong as the hub for collectors of the world’s finest and most coveted wines.”

Christie’s final sales for this year will be held in London on 8 December and New York on 9 December.
