US billionaire swoops on Bordeaux estates
A US billionaire has bought three châteaux on the Right Bank of Bordeaux in one fell swoop.
Thomas Sullivan, founder of Lumber Liquidators and Cabinets to Go, has acquired Château Gaby in Canon-Fronsac (pictured), Château Moya in Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux and Château du Parc in St Emilion.
In all the three estates cover 30 hectares and the sale is thought to have cost between €8 million to €12m.
As reported by Decanter, both Château Gaby and Moya were sold by their Canadian owner, former asset manager David Curl, who is moving to his vineyard and farm in South Africa.
Château du Parc meanwhile was sold by wine consultant Alain Reynaud who has owned the estate since 2011. Gaby’s winemaker, Damien Landouar, who has been at the property since 1999 will remain in place and his responsibilities will now extend to cover Moya and du Parc as well.
