Tipping makes switch from BBR to Jeroboams

London wine merchant Jeroboams has appointed Matt Tipping to the role of commercial director.

Matt Tipping joins Jeroboams following roles at Majestic Wine and Berry Bros & Rudd

Tipping joins the company with considerable experience of the fine wine market, with roles at Majestic Wine and, most recently, as fine wine sales manager at Berry Bros & Rudd.

The role of commercial director is a new one for Jeroboams as the merchant seeks to further align the private customer experience from his or her first visit to one of the company’s six retail stores, through to offering a tailored, individual service to provide wine, Champagne, spirits and liqueurs.

The company said that Tipping would be an “inspirational addition” to the team, adding “a further element of connectivity and relevance to the local community that the retailer has been keen to enhance”.

“Matt Tipping will bring exceptional knowledge of the wine market and what a private customer is looking for, particularly through his many years managing the fine wine team at Berry Bros, and his earlier experience in retail,” Hugh Sturges, Jeroboams managing director, said.– who, as reported in db, himself joined the company from BBR less than a year ago.

“I am delighted that he is joining Jeroboams and look forward to working with him and my other colleagues in retail and in the on trade, cementing Jeroboams’ position as London’s local wine merchant.”

“I’m delighted to be joining Jeroboams at this exciting time in their history,” Tipping added.

“They have recently consolidated their business and are focusing on tailoring their key strengths to their customers’ individual requirements.

“Having quality retail shops in key ‘villages’ within London gives Jeroboams a great opportunity to really stand out from other companies. They have a loyal and dedicated customer base and thereby add strength to the wineries and brands they represent.

“It’s an exciting time to be joining the team and I’m looking forward to further enhancing Jeroboams reputation as London’s local wine merchant by championing innovation and personalised service.

The addition of Tipping to the team is a further development in what has been a busy year for Jeroboams. In May the company relaunched its Notting Hill delicatessen Mr Christian’s, while in a bid to emphasise its ‘local’ credentials it distributed specially designed maps of the locality of its six stores which were designed by London artist Zebedee Helm. Jeroboams has also renovated the private cellar in its Walton Street store.

In addition, October will see Jeroboams host its first press tasting in a number of years. The tasting is set to be held at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in central London.

Tipping will join the Jeroboams team from 5 September and can be reached at matthew.tipping@jeroboams.co.uk.
