Romanée-Conti tops Christie’s auction

A bottle of Romanée-Conti 2005 went for HK$343,000 (US$44,365) at Christie’s latest Hong Kong sale which commemorated the auction house’s 250th anniversary.

Held on 27 May, the sale realised HK$7,885,080 (US$1,020,193) with a percentage of sales going towards the French Red Cross.

The auction was sold 95% by lot and 94% by value with a bottle of Domaine de La Romanée-Conti Romanée-Conti 2005 achieving HK$343,000 (US$44,365) – Christie’s top selling lot, proving that Asia has an undiminished thirst for premium Burgundy.

Tim Triptree, senior specialist and head of the wine sale, said: “Through this one of a kind, visionary sale, we have presented a select group of many of the world’s most celebrated wines to collectors and connoisseurs around the world.

“Enthusiastic bidding from a busy sale room showed great interest in the 84 estates. Collectors responded well to vintages of historic years and the unique experiences that accompanied select lots.

“As the perfect start to our 30th anniversary spring sales, we thank the Great Estates that we have worked with for their generosity, with a significant proportion of the proceeds of the sale going to our selected charity, the French Red Cross.”
