HDH leads US auction market in 2016

Chicago-based auctioneer Hart Davis Hart says it is once again the leading US fine wine salesroom as the first half of 2016 comes to an end.

The auction house has reported that after a late June sale, that realised US$5.5 miilion, it has the largest share of the US fine wine auction market having made US$23m from 9,796 lots so far this year.

The recent sale bore witness to the “resurgence of the Bordeaux market” in the US with the 756 lots of claret contributing US$2m to the auction’s final tally.

There was also “robust demand” for Bourbon and rye whisky as well as for mature vintages of Cult Cabernets from Colgin, Dominus and Ridge, while Barolo and Madeira “also performed particularly well”.

HDH sales will return this September with a sale on the 19th and it will also hold its first online-only auction on 29 July.
