Langham HK launches Alsatian wine pairing menu

In celebration of this year’s theme for HK’s Le French GourMay festival, the Langham Hotel will host an Alsatian wine and Cantonese food pairing menu throughout the month of May.

The wine list created by the Langham’s food and beverage director, Shane Wilkins includes Pinot Gris from Famille Hugel and Domaine Zind Humbrecht; Gewurztraminer from Famille Hugel and Riesling from Famille Hugel, Domaine Weinbach and Domaine Humbrecht.

Held at the Langham’s three-Michelin starred T’ang Court, the Kwong Wai Keung’s eight-course set menu included smoked cod fish with honey syrup, Cantonese-style barbecue pork, baked lobster with mozzarella and fried bean curd with egg, spinach and morel mushrooms in chicken broth.

Despite Hong Kong being known for its high consumption of red wine, Riesling, Pinot Blanc and Gewurztraminer have been hailed for their ability to pair well with Cantonese cuisine, with Etienne Hugel going as far as saying that Alsatian wines “belong in Asia.”

Le French GourMay is Hong Kong’s annual French gastronomic festival run by Business France with this year’s theme focusing on wine and dishes from Alsace.

The Langham’s Alsace wine and Cantonese food pairing menu will run from 1-31 May for lunch and dinner and is priced from HK$850 per head.
