Obama pokes fun at Trump’s wine brand

Like many people, US president Barack Obama had wine on his mind on Saturday – in particular, the wine brand owned by Republican party frontrunner Donald Trump.

However, it wasn’t for his desire to drink it that the president was talking about the Trump wine range.

Rather, Mr Obama took the chance to tear into ‘The Donald’s’ winemaking skills at a Democratic party fundraiser in Dallas.

In a rip-roaring speech to supporters at the South-by-Southwest festival in Texas, the president took Trump to task over his wine brand.

“Has anybody bought that wine? I want to know what that wine tastes like”, Mr Obama said jokingly.

The teasing speech comes days after Trump bizarrely showed off his wine range along with his Trump Steaks and Trump Water to reporters covering his nomination campaign.

The range of wines includes red, white, rosé and sparkling varieties, all of which are emblazoned with the Trump moniker.

The wines, made at a 1,300 acre estate in Charlottesville, Virginia – the largest winery in the state – are priced at between $16 and $50.

“I mean, come on. You know that’s, like, some $5 wine”, Obama joked. “They slap a label on it, they charge you $50 and say it’s the greatest wine ever.

“Oh, boy. Selling wine. That’s not what we’re for. Couldn’t make it up.”

Trump took time to promote his wine brand following criticism of his apparent lack of business nous.

Former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said in a speech that Trump had a litany of failed enterprises to his name which take away from his hard-nosed business guru image.

Romney said: “Whatever happened to Trump Airlines? How about Trump University? And then there’s Trump Magazine and Trump Vodka and Trump Steaks, and Trump Mortgage?”

“A business genius he is not.”
