McWilliam’s Flagship range launches in HK

Premium New South Wales wine producer McWilliam’s has released its “1877” Hilltops Shiraz and “842” Tumbarumba Chardonnay onto the Hong Kong market.

McWilliam’s “1877” Hilltops Shiraz 2014 is named after the company’s founding year and is the first release from the McWilliam’s plot in the Hilltops region whereas the McWilliam’s 842 Tumbarumba Chardonnay hails from the cool wine region of Tumbarumba and takes its name from the region’s peak altitude of 842 metres.

Last year, the Chardonnay won the title of Best Chardonnay and Best New World Chardonnay at the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International Wine and Spirits Awards as well as a 95 point gold medal from the 2015 James Halliday Chardonnay Challenge.

Both wines are made only in good vintages and in limited quantities. Garrick Harvison, general manager Asia Pacific for McWilliam’s, said:

“The Flagship range is our tribute to the most exciting wine regions of Australia. We believe that wine lovers in Hong Kong will be able to sense that passion in the McWilliam’s 1877 Shiraz and the 842 Chardonnay, which like all McWilliam’s wines have also been crafted with food in mind. They are both medium-bodied and perfectly balanced, making them exceptional pairings for many popular Chinese and Asian dishes.”

The McWilliam’s “1877” Hilltops Shiraz 2014 is priced at HK$528 and the McWilliam’s “842” Tumbarumba Chardonnay 2013 will be sold for HK$468, both available via Watson’s Wines.
