Christie’s HK sale realises HK$21.8 million

Christie’s latest Hong Kong auction saw 93% of lots sold, with 12 bottles of Petrus 2000 fetching HK$392,000 (US$50,734).

The top lot: Petrus 2000

Held on 12 March, the sale fetched HK$21,842,608 (US$2,826,973) and comprised two collections: ‘Part III of an Esteemed Private Connoisseur’s Collection’ and ‘Part II of the Peter Chu Collection.’

The top auction lot was 12 bottles of Petrus 2000 which went for HK$392,000 (US$50,734).

Tim Triptree, head of wine for Christie’s, commented:

“We were delighted to witness a packed sale room and enthusiastic bidding for spectacular wines, with extremely strong results from Part III of an Esteemed Private Connoisseur’s Collection and Part II of the Peter Chu Collection.

“Buyers showed continued appetite for the world’s top wines – in particular, Burgundy from Romanée-Conti, Henri Jayer, Comtes Lafon and Domaine Leflaive sold particularly well. This was a very exciting opening to the year for both Christie’s and the wine department and we look forward to our next major sale in May.”

The top five lots sold were:

  • 12 bottles of Petrus 2000 – HK$392,000 (US$50,734)
  • 12 bottles of Domaine de la Romanée Conti, La Tâche 1990 – HK$343,000 ($US44,393)
  • A magnum of Domaine de la Romanée Conti, Romanee-Conti 1990 – HK$269,500 (US$34,880)
  • Six magnums of Le Pin 2000 –  HK$245,000 (US$31,709)
  • 12 bottles of Petrus 1998 – HK$232,750 (US$30,124)

Christie’s next Hong Kong auction will be held on Friday, 27 May entitled, ‘Finest & Rarest Wines: Direct from Great Estates’.
