Range of Victorian gins launched in UK

A range of gins celebrating the Victorian gin-making era has been launched in the UK.

Gin Lane 1751 full range

Created by Charles Maxwell of Thames Distillers, an eighth generation distiller, and The Bloomsbury Club, a group of gin lovers and drinks industry professionals, Gin Lane 1751 comprises four styles: a classic London Dry (40% ABV); London Dry Royal Strength (47% ABV); Victoria Pink Gin (40% ABV); and an Old Tom Gin (40% ABV).

Each expression has been made in a “Victorian style” with bold juniper and hints of liquorice, hand-crafted in small traditional pot stills.

Named after the historical signing of the Gin Act in 1751, which banned the sale of gin in prisons, the workhouse and any shops selling everyday staples. Consequently, gin became less readily available and more expensive, with its quality improving significantly. By the Victorian era, it had become a “drink of respectability”, according to Gin Lane’s makers.

The range will be available across on and off-trade sectors with distribution in the UK led exclusively by Coe Vintners.

Distribution has already been secured in Selfridges with a price of £26.99 and online at The Drink Shop, with the range set to launch in the USA by the end of 2015.
