Taittinger drafts in Michel Roux Jr

Champagne Taittinger has appointed chef Michel Roux Jr to lead a panel of judges in the UK heat of the brand’s Prix Culinaire International gastronomy competition.

The TV chef, formerly of Masterchef and Food and Drink, is the chair of 10 culinary judges for the UK round of the competition, taking place at Roux at Parliament Square on 5 September, with €2400 (£1738) up for grabs and advancement to the grand final.

Chefs between the ages of 24 and 39 with more than five years’ experience are being invited to submit a recipe based on this year’s focus in the poularde (large chicken). Those that make it through this round will travel to the restaurant to prepare the dish on the day, as well as a second dish based on a theme provided by Michel Roux.

The winner of the UK competition will be chosen by Michel Roux Jr and announced by Champagne Taittinger’s marketing director Vitalie Taittinger on the day of the competition.

All UK finalists will receive a Jeroboam of Champagne Taittinger and the UK winner will received the prize money, a trophy and a place in the international final which will be held in Paris on 23 November.

The winner of the international final will receive €10,000 (£7200); the runner up €4800 (£3455) and the 3rd Prize winner, €2500 (£1800).
