Canadian craft chain to open in China
A popular Canadian craft beer pub is to open a new franchise in China following success in its home market.
Craft Beer Market has outlets in Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver and has plans to open five new restaurants in China, the first being in Shanghai by next year.
Founder, PJ L’Heureux, explained that after opening the Vancouver branch last year, he was approached by Vancouver and Shanghai-based First Growth Holdings who suggested the concept would work in China.
L’Heureux, told the Calgary Herald: “When I started CRAFT I never imagined that we would be opening a location in China.
“The potential is unlimited really. Just by touring Shanghai, there’s 24 million people there – 130 million within an hour. There’s nothing comparable.
“It’s a huge market there right now and it’s just getting to that bubble point where people are paying attention. And for us and with the partners that approached us their big thing is import/export. What’s going to make it great for us is being able to import a lot of great Canadian breweries into China.”
