Tee-total Murray racks up $6,000 bar bill

US Open winner, Andy Murray splashed out thousands of dollars on dinner and drinks at New York’s Hakkasan to celebrate his victory at Flushing Meadows.

Sears and Murray at the Ling Ling bar

Following his gruelling, five hour match against Novak Djokovic, Murray and his 30-strong party – including girlfriend Kim Sears – headed to Hakkasan on West 43rd Street.

Despite having being closed for half an hour, the restaurant opened its doors to the Grand Slam winner.

The group promptly tucked into US$6,448 dollars worth of drinks at the Ling Ling bar, including two bottles of Louis Roederer for $396, four glasses of Cabernet Sauvignon and 17 Zesty Martinis for $255.

At $64 for four glasses of Cabernet Sauvignon, the group was clearly enjoying the Three Saints 2009 from Santa Barbera, priced at $16 a glass – or $65 a bottle, which was evidently ordered later .

However, the final bill (see below) appears to have been lowered to only cover the service charge of $1,289.

Food included spicy prawns and roasted silver cod. Through it all Murray drank a single lemon soda – worth $6.

Something strange here as one listing for 2 x Louis Roederer for $396 and further down a listing for 3 x Louis at the lower price of $297.

Overall I’d say incredibly restrained given the sugnificance of Murray’s victory, although hard to go OTT when the man of the moment drinks a single glass of soda. Talk about dedication to your craft!!
