Industry heavyweights launch RFU Wine Club

The Rugby Football Union has launched its own wine club to fill the £7-£12 gap it believes exists in the UK market.

The club has been created in conjunction with CellarVie, a new wine company managed by ex-Constellation chief Christopher Carson and Bill Page, former chairman of Mentzendorff.

The RFU Wine Club, which will both sell wine and host rugby-themed events centred around international fixtures in Twickenham, currently has a strong weighting towards French and Italian wines, and insists there are “several exclusive wines”.

Speaking of the club’s launch, Paul Vaughan, the RFU’s business operations director, said: “We look forward to being able to fill the gap in the market that we are sure is there.

“Our rugby customer base is an ideal fit for the Wine Club. We think the wines will complement our hospitality services in our boxes and debenture lounges,” he added.

Meanwhile, Carson said: “The list supports the mantra of the club – to offer really good quality and exceptional value for money. The wine world is fast changing and there are lots of new and exciting wines emerging from all corners of the globe.”

Membership of the RFU Wine Club is free. To find out more visit www.rfuwineclub.com
