IMW to hold two groundbreaking tastings and seminars

Two groundbreaking London-based tastings have been planned by the Institute of Masters of Wine over the next seven weeks.

The first, on 9 September, will focus on 17 of Italy’s finest winemakers, while the second, in October, concerns a comprehensive, comparitive Austro-Hungarian tasting.

In two weeks today the IMW will present the Diversity of Italy Seminar and Tasting in partnership with the Istituto Grandi Marchi (IGM), whose members comprise some of Italy’s most renowned producers such as Biondi Santi, Pio Cesare, Masi, Alois Lageder, Jermann, Donnafugata, Tenuta San Guido and Marchesi Antinori.

The participating IGM members will show a total of 49 wines, while a seminar will provide a topical insight into the wines of Italy, as well as a panel discussion led by IGM president, Marchese Piero Antinori, exploring the opportunities and challenges facing Italian wine.

Then, on Tuesday 12 October, the IMW will hold a tasting and seminar focused on the wines from Austria and Hungary.

Organised in partnership with the Austrian Wine Marketing Board, Wines of Hungary and the Esterházy Foundation, the event at the Austrian Embassy in London will include a tasting and panel discussion, moderated by Elizabeth Gabay MW, followed by three themed wine flights.

Both events are open to Masters of Wine, students of the Institute, members of the wine trade and private individuals with a serious interest in fine wine.
