Double discounts as Christmas nears

The massively tempting alcohol offers available on the UK high street continue to gather momentum in the lead up to Christmas.

Supermarket Sainsbury’s is even offering a double discount on certain wines, enabling customers to take advantage of two simultaneous offers on the same wine.

Once again, Champagne continues to be a very popular product on promotion. Last week, Sainsbury’s announced it was going to re-introduce its "Buy 6 save 25%" promotion on all wine and Champagne from 2-8 December.

One such wine on double discount is vintage Champagne Laurent-Perrier, which is already reduced from £39.99 to £29.99 until 1 Janaury 2010, but with an added 25% discount, the new bottle price is merely £22.49.

Another Champagne deal at Sainsbury’s includes its own-label Blanc de Noirs Brut Champagne. Currently on a six-bottle for £67.50 offer, with an additional 25% discount, the wine would amount to £11.25 a bottle.

Majestic is also offering “Improved Offers”, wines with an extra discount, to its customers. And again, Champagne is a prominent part of this promotional activity.

At the retailer, Louis Roederer NV was originally £39.99 and was discounted to £37.50, but on its current "Buy two bottles save 33%" offer, the Champagne can be purchased for just £24.99 a bottle.

Similar offers apply to Heidsieck Gold Top 2004 (which was £39.99 a bottle, on discount and is currently £18.99 a bottle) as well as Jacquart Brut Tradition NV, which originally was £26.99 a bottle but on a special offer at Majestic, it can now be purchased for £14.99 a bottle.

Meanwhile, after making the headlines two weeks ago with its largest Champagne discounts ever, UK supermarket Morrisons continues to tempt customers through its doors with yet more Champagne deals, albeit not as competitively priced as the offers from two weeks ago.

This time, Morrisons is featuring Lanson Rosé Brut for £32.99 (a saving of £10), Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label NV for £24.91 (it was £31.91) and GH Mumm Cordon Rouge NW for £19.99 a bottle, a saving of £7.
