Gusbourne releases rare cellar wines to mark 20th vintage

English sparkling wine producer Gusbourne is opening its cellar for a limited release of historic wines to celebrate 20 vintages of winemaking, including bottles from its inaugural 2006 harvest.

The Cellar Release collection will be available exclusively to Gusbourne members from 16 July until 6 August 2026. The estate said the release comprises around 250 bottles drawn from small parcels held back over two decades.

Among the wines offered are four bottles of Blanc de Blancs 2006, produced from Gusbourne’s first vintage. Prices range from £45 to £105 per bottle.

All wines in the release were disgorged on 23 March 2026 and have been hand-labelled with the estate’s new Cellar Release design.

Founding vintage

The 2006 vintage marked the first harvest from Gusbourne’s Butness vineyard. Chief Vineyard Manager Jon Pollard recalled picking the estate’s first fruit that year.

Reflecting on the estate’s development, Pollard said the winemaking journey had been shaped by both difficult and successful seasons.

“There’s something in every vintage,” said Pollard. “You try things, you learn from them, you fine-tune them. Then another year comes along and teaches you something else.”

Pollard also highlighted the 2010 harvest, which was unusually late and high-yielding, and the launch of Gusbourne’s first still Chardonnay in 2011, which he described as a turning point for English still wine.

Members-first release

Gusbourne said the Cellar Release has been designed as a members-first allocation, with access based on timing rather than a lottery system.

The producer operates a two-tier membership programme, Collectors and Explored, which includes preview access to new releases, preferential pricing, tastings and access to ticketed events.

The online sales window closes on 6 August 2026.

Twenty years of Gusbourne

Gusbourne planted its first vines in 2004 with the stated aim of producing vintage-only sparkling wines from estate-grown fruit.

Today the producer farms and hand-harvests all of its own grapes and exports wines to more than 40 countries.

Its wines are listed with UK retailers including Fortnum & Mason, Selfridges, Harvey Nichols, Berry Bros. & Rudd and Hedonism Wines.

Gusbourne also supplies restaurants including Ynyshir, L’Enclume, Moor Hall, Restaurant Story, Core by Clare Smyth and The Hand & Flowers.
