Pata Negra Fauna range reveals the characters of Spanish terroirs
J García Carrión’s Pata Negra Fauna range combines design, storytelling and winemaking expertise to craft region-focused wines that showcase Spain’s terroir.

The Pata Negra Fauna range is derived from the souls of four of Spain’s most notable Denominación de Origen (DO) regions: La Mancha, Rueda, Toro and Rioja. The collection of terroir-driven, approachable wines enhances the intensity of J García Carrión’s Pata Negra portfolio with a compelling concept built on four iconic Iberian animals, each symbolising a specific virtue associated with its region.
The Fauna range was created during the Covid-19 pandemic to inspire both the winery’s internal team and consumers. These wines not only express their origins, but also convey “energy, emotion and a sense of resilience,” according to the brand.
Each Fauna wine is crafted to showcase an intensified version of its terroir, highlighting fruit purity, typicity and varietal character through careful vineyard selection, tailored vinification and ageing.
La Mancha
The intelligence, agility and silent precision of the Iberian lynx embody the elegant, expressive and balanced character of La Mancha, one of Europe’s great plateaus. This region is defined by its high altitude, extreme continental climate, vast horizons, intense sunlight and dramatic temperature shifts between day and night, resulting in a place where concentration meets freshness.
Pata Negra Fauna from La Mancha is crafted with a blend of supple Tempranillo, structured Cabernet Sauvignon, vibrant Petit Verdot and aromatic Graciano. The result is a polished, modern expression that captures the region’s natural generosity while offering a contemporary interpretation of typical wines from La Mancha, retaining the region’s unmistakably hallmarks – bright, approachable, fruit-forward expressions infused with sunlight.

Rueda
As quick, alert and effortlessly agile as a fox, Pata Negra Fauna Rueda embodies a lively personality with a bright, energetic profile. Its sharp instincts and slick movements reflect the blend’s zesty freshness, aromatic precision and dynamic character. The region’s continental climate and frequent winds create ideal conditions for Verdejo, enhancing its aromatic lift, mineral tension and crisp, refreshing structure.
While most Rueda wines are made exclusively from Verdejo grapes, Fauna features a 50/50 blend of aromatic Sauvignon Blanc and Verdejo for a more contemporary and globally appealing style. The outcome is a fresher, more vibrant and multi-dimensional wine that remains unmistakably Rueda, yet with added finesse and complexity.
Toro
The bull represents the most literal and symbolic pairing in the Fauna collection, embodying the region of Toro, whose terroir is characterised by strength, depth and raw energy. Although the region is known for its intensity, Fauna aims to achieve a sense of balance amid the robust flavours of its dense fruit, bold tannins and deep colour.
Made from 100% Tinta de Toro, a local clone of Tempranillo with thicker skin, Pata Negra Fauna showcases a profile that is both powerful and approachable. Crucially, it maintains freshness and drinkability while honouring the region’s muscular character.
Rioja
The wolf symbolises controlled strength and elegance, reflecting the wine’s personality as a Rioja with depth, presence and refinement. Rioja’s diverse climates and soils contribute to its wines’ aromatic complexity. Fauna primarily sources the grapes for this wine from Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa, utilising both altitude and limestone to achieve a beautifully fresh finish.
Crafted with 100% Tempranillo from cooler zones, the wine aims to express Rioja’s fruit purity in a modern way. Fauna stands out with its intensity, rich colour, expressive aromas and broad mouthfeel, all wrapped up in seamlessly integrated oak. This is a wine that offers a deeper, more layered interpretation of the Rioja region.
