Head of Domaine Clarence Dillon named as new President of Primum Familiae Vini

Prince Robert of Luxembourg, the president of Bordeaux’s Domaine Clarence Dillon, has been named as the new president of Primum Familiae Vini (PFV), the association of twelve of the world’s most distinguished wine families, vowing to to champion sustainability in Fine Wine during his tenure.

Prince Robert, who will take over the rotating presidency for the coming year from Charles Symington, of port House Symington’s, said it was “an immense honour”  to assume the presidency of the association of twelve of the world’s most distinguished wine families, thanking the Symington family for its hospitality during the recent PFV meeting in the Douro Valley.

“[It] was truly exceptional and a perfect way to discover their devotion to constantly redefining the boundaries of excellence,” he said. “On behalf of all of the 11 other families, I wish to express my deep admiration and gratitude to them.”.

He added that during his tenure as President, he intends to focus attention on the burgeoning interest in experiences and hospitality surrounding our world of fine wines, “an area where PFV families are uniquely positioned to offer access to our beautiful estates, thereby sharing our heritage and passion”, while ecological leadership will be another important plank.

Prince Robert is currently overseeing the construction of new buildings at Château Haut-Brion that aims to achieve carbon neutrality across its new wine cellars and hospitality
circuit. Designed by architect Annabelle Selldorf, the project is set to open in the second half of 2026.

The rotation of the tenancy among the PFV members is designed to ensure “a continuous flow of fresh insights and a dynamic vision,” the PVF said.

Clarence Dillon, which joined PFV in 2018, owns  Château Haut-Brion, Château La Mission Haut-Brion, Château Quintus in Saint-Emilion Grand Cru and Clarendelle but has also ventured into fine dining, wholesale distribution, retail, and hospitality through its two-star Michelin restaurant in Paris, Le Clarence, and its fine wine boutique, La Cave du Château.

Other members of the group, which was founded in 1992, include Marchesi Antinori, Baron Philippe de Rothschild, Burgundy’s Joseph Drouhin, Egon Müller Scharzhof from the Mosel, Famille Hugel from Alsace, Pol Roger, the Rhône’s Famille Perrin, Symington Family Estates, Tenuta San Guido from Tuscany,  Familia Torres and TEMPOS Vega Sicilia in Ribera del Duero.
