Rombauer buys Renwood Winery in Sierra Foothills

Chardonnay specialist Rombauer Vineyards in Napa Valley has purchased the Renwood Winery facility in Amador County, including 20 acres of vineyards, its winery and tasting room.

Rombauer Vineyards was founded in 1980 by Koerner and Joan Rombauer, and today owns 670 acres of vineyards in Carneros, Atlas Peak, Stags Leap, St. Helena, Calistoga and the Sierra Foothills. Koerner died last year, with the estate now managed by his son, KR Rombauer.

Rombauer Vineyards currently owns 148 acres, mostly planted to Zinfandel, in El Dorado county, and also has numerous long-term relationships with growers throughout Amador County. This purchase will allow the winery to rapidly increase its Zinfandel production.

“My dad loved the Sierra Foothills and always envisioned Rombauer crafting more wine from this outstanding grape growing region,” said KR Rombauer, second generation owner of Rombauer Vineyards.

“In fact, he attempted to acquire this very property in 2011. I am sorry Koerner isn’t here today to see the purchase come to fruition but I know he would be extremely pleased.”

This sale include the winery, tasting room and 20-acre vineyard, but  does not include the Renwood Winery brand and Renwood Ranch Vineyard, which will continue to be owned by its existing owners, Ren Acquisitions, Inc – an Argentine investment group – and marketed by Pacific Highway Wine & Spirits.

The tasting room at the former Renwood winery will close for a brief time as Rombauer Vineyards moves to update the facility before reopening it under the Rombauer Vineyards name in April 2019.
