Catena marks 120-year anniversary
Argentina’s Catena Zapata is celebrating its 120th anniversary with a London-based consumer campaign.
Catena Zapata has been in business for 120 years, having been founded in 1902 by Nicola Catena. To mark the occasion, the Argentine winery has launched a consumer campaign featuring Central London activations, retailer in-store activity and tastings, and a commemorative short film.
The film, a short animation narrated by Dr. Adrianna Catena, traces the transformation of Malbec from its origins in France to becoming Argentina’s flagship varietal. It also explores the work of Nicolás Catena Zapata and his exploration of high-altitude vineyards and rigorous clonal selection.
As part of the campaign Catena will launch a window display at John Lewis in Oxford Street between 2 and 16 October, featuring visuals inspired by their short film.
From 7 October, a two-week escalator poster takeover on the London Underground at Oxford Circus will showcase Catena’s 120-year journey through illustrated artwork. These activations coincide with UK-wide in-store promotions and customer tastings of Catena Malbec, including an event for Waitrose Wine Specialists.
Catena Zapata is now under the leadership of Dr. Laura Catena, a physician, vintner, and 4th generation family member.
The winery released its latest vintages of Nicolás Catena Zapata and Adrianna Mundus Bacillus Terrae through La Place de Bordeaux in September.
The 2021 vintage is the seventh release through La Place de Bordeaux for Catena Zapata and one that has been widely acclaimed, on the back of a strong growing season for Cabernet Sauvignon in high altitude Mendoza.
