Emmys

The 75th Emmys took place this week, with big wins for The Bear, Succession and Beef.

And what better way to celebrate than to head straight to the bar? For the first time, Johnnie Walker served as the official spirits partner of the 75th Emmy Awards season, presenting a bespoke selection of Johnnie Walker Blue Label cocktails made by drinks giant Diageo’s Reserve World Class mixologist Charles Joly.

The glitz and glamour that goes hand in hand with the awards calls for bubbles. Franciacorta provided the Emmys with sparkling wines from the region’s finest wineries.

Taking place in downtown LA, it was only right for the Emmys to have a Californian wine on show. This year, Justin Vineyards & Winery, from Paso Robles, was the official wine partner for the 75th Emmy Awards season, offering wines made from Bordeaux grape varieties.

winners announced at the live broadcast will also receive a custom bottle of Justin Vineyards’ Isosceles wine (Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot) exclusively offered within the “Winner’s Circle” at the Governors Gala. Isosceles retails for US$85 a bottle.

As a highlight, Woodford Reserve and Champagne Taittinger will be having their own partnership serving ‘The Golden Mask’ cocktail at multiple events in the build up to the Awards.

Here at the drinks business we got our hands on the official recipe, so that viewers can sip with the stars as they watch the awards.

The recipe includes: Woodford Reserve Distiller’s Select, Champagne Taittinger Nocturne Sec NV, Crème de abricot, Peychaud’s Bitters and a Goldleaf Garnish.

As the BAFTA official Champagne partner, guests to the awards will also enjoy Champagne Taittinger Brut Réserve NV.

Golden Globes

Margot Robbie, Rosamund Pike, Dua Lipa and Oprah Winfrey were among the nominees, presenters and winners at this year’s Golden Globes, showing off their extravagant gowns on the red carpet. Also on the red carpet were Moët & Chandon Minis, which the stars were seen toasting with

Throughout the night, Moët & Chandon was enjoyed by attendees, and the Champagne house’s Moët Impérial Brut was served to compliment the menu pairings from Chef Nobu Matsuhisa.

Moët & Chandon Rosé Impérial was also on offer, and Taylor Swift was spotted pouring herself a glass. A radiant Champagne and glamorous expression of the House’s style, it was the obvious choice for Tay Tay.

Grammys

The Grammys may be the biggest night in music, but when it comes to booze, it’s (unofficially) a bit more of a bring-your-own vibe. This was at least the case at last year’s event, when Lizzo was caught swigging from a tiny flask in her bag.

Jay-Z was even less coy about cracking out his off-the-menu tipples, repping two of his own brands. The rapper was seen whipping out both a magnum of his Ace of Spades Champagne as well as a smaller bottle of D’USSÉ Cognac during the ceremony.

On the official side, nominees’ swag bags in 2023 contained bottles of Frontera Wines Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile.

Academy Awards

Oft considered the pinnacle of Awards Season, the Academy Awards (aka the Oscars) will take place on 10 March 2024.

The awards ceremony is sure to host an impressive list of nominees and guests, but the wine list itself may also be star-studded.

Rosé Champagne by Fleur de Miraval, which is co-owned by Brad Pitt, was the wine sponsor of the 2023 ceremony. The Champagne, which costs nearly US$400 a bottle, made its second appearance at the Oscars in a row after it replaced Piper-Heidsieck as the official champagne of the awards in 2022.

According to Wine Enthusiast, around 20,000 bottles of Fleur de Miraval are produced each year, and 1,000 were reserved for the Oscars in 2023. Prince Robert of Luxembourg, who is a member of the Grand Ducal Family of Luxembourg, also made an appearance on the wine list for his Bordeaux winery Domaine Clarence Dillon which supplied the still wines.

Don Julio Tequila was used in cocktails for the big day, where mixologist Charles Joly (shaking drinks up at the Emmys this year) has been the official mixologist of the Oscars since 2016. In 2023, his team was pouring out margaritas, Palomas and Tequila martinis for the guests.
