Whoopi Goldberg relaunches her Prosecco brand
Sister Act star Whoopi Goldberg unveils the second release from her Whoopi Prosecco Superiore DOCG brand with a bold new look.
Oscar-winning actress Whoopi Goldberg first launched her sparkling wine brand – Whoopi Prosecco – in November 2022.
Produced using organically-grown Glera grapes from the hillside vineyards of Asolo, Italy, Whoopi Prosecco is described by the Ghost star as having “tiny bubbles and a big taste”.
Initially available via ecommerce partner Reservebar.com, and now sold through whoopiprosecco.com, the sparkling wine retails at US$21.99 and has an ABV of 11.5%.
Goldberg has revealed she wants consumers to buy a bottle for entertaining guests at home.
“Whoopi Prosecco is simple, elegant and meaningful to me. Because I think you should have a great time, great conversations with your friends, and a great bottle of Prosecco,” she said.
“The conversation starts when you put it on the table, because it’s so fantastic. I love hosting gatherings with friends and family – that’s why I created Whoopi Prosecco.”
The wine is described as having “a bright and elegant bouquet of fruity and floral aromas featuring a delightfully fresh and robust taste of continuous citrus.”
Whoopi Prosecco is not the actress’ first foray into the world of fizz. In 1999 she designed artwork for a series of limited edition Korbel Brut Rosé bottles housing wine produced by the California-based Korbel Champagne Cellars. The bottles featured a violet foil capsule sporting Goldberg’s signature in gold.
“Whoopi Goldberg was a natural choice for our artist series because both Whoopi and Korbel are both synonymous with fun and celebration,” said Gary Heck, president and chairman for Korbel at the time.
For the second release of her own Whoopi Prosecco, Goldberg commissioned London design agency Butterfly Cannon to give her branding a complete makeover.
Featuring a bubblegum pink cage and pull tab, with a pop of contrasting green inside the neck closure, micro-embossing and debossing have also been added to lend a touch of “playful elegance” to the design.
In 2011 Goldberg revealed that while she “smoked a wonderful joint before the Oscars”, she did not drink alcohol.
‘I know you’re not supposed to admit that you smoke pot, but I don’t drink alcohol,’ Goldberg was filmed saying while recording a voice-over session for animated film The Pagemaster.
It is not clear whether the actress is still teetotal.
