Rare £80 Brugal rum hits the UK

Drinks giant Edrington has introduced a limited-edition sipping rum collection to the UK under its Brugal brand named Coleccioìn Visionaria.

Speaking to the drinks business about the launch, Darren West, head of Brugal Rum UK, said: “Brugal’s Colección Visionaria is a unique collection of rum crafted using the world’s first ‘aromatic cask toasting’ technique, developed by Brugal family member and maestra ronera Jassil Villaneuva.”

West told db that the rum has been “influenced by its homeland of the Dominican Republic” and revealed that “drawing inspiration from quintessential Dominican aromas and flavours, each expression gives a nod to Brugal’s deep heritage”.

He explained: “In the case of Edición 01, the cask masters toast the casks with cacao beans, infusing the wood with their aromatic properties before being prepared to be filled with the new liquid.”

The launch marks a proud moment for the Brugal brand, as West admitted: “We are excited to have launched Edicion 01 in the UK, a product that honours our commitment to advancing the craft of rum and spirit production across the world.”

Colección Visionaria Edición 01, Cacao will retail at £80 per bottle and yet only four batches of the rare expression will be distilled globally. Bottles can be purchased from The Whisky Exchange, Master of Malt and Berry Bros. & Rudd.
