Vermouth Carlo Alberto crowns Best Boutique Hotel at The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2023

Vermouth Carlo Alberto, part of the Compagnia dei Caraibi portfolio, crowned The Newt in Bruton, Somerset as the Best Boutique Hotel at the inaugural edition of The World’s 50 Best Hotels.

Compagnia dei Caraibi general manager Fabio Torretta presented the award to The Newt team.

The packed ceremony held in London’s Guildhall on Tuesday 19 September saw hoteliers from across the globe gather to discover how their establishments were ranked in this first ever edition of the list.

Before the main event, guests were treated to a number of cocktails utilising Carlo Alberto vermouth, as crafted by Edoardo Maria Sandri, head bartender at Atrium Bar, located in Florence’s Four Seasons Hotel. These drinks, which highlighted the versatility of Vermouth Riserva Carlo Alberto, included the signature Pancake Highball and the reimagined classics of the Fifty Fifty Martini (using Vermouth Riserva Carlo Alberto Dry) and the Smoky Negroni (using Vermouth Riserva Carlo Alberto Red).

The brand, as an icon of the excellence of style, refinement and tradition that makes a great hotel, also sponsored the prize for Best Boutique Hotel.

This year’s winner, The Newt, came 37th in the overall global rankings, and was singled out for its beautiful Georgian style architecture and tailor-made experiences. Wine List Confidential author Douglas Blyde recently praised the hotel’s Botanical Rooms restaurant, dubbing it “a location which rewards discovery”.

Mark Durden-Smith, who hosted the awards ceremony, said of The Newt: “This rural idyll pushes the boundaries of what a family-run boutique can be.”

At the end of the ceremony, he stated: “We have embarked on this journey alongside the first edition of The World’s 50 Best Hotels because we anticipate strong growth trends in the cocktail bar sector within the hotel industry in the coming years. We have always been committed to innovation and strive to identify trends before they explode. It has been a real pleasure to support this new award in support of an industry with which we share values of sophistication, style, and elegance.”

Vermouth Carlo Alberto has become an icon of international hotel excellence. The Best Boutique Hotel award, and the brand’s support for the new iteration of the 50 Best Hotels, stems from the desire to merge the identity of Vermouth Carlo Alberto with the
world of intimate and sophisticated hospitality. The cocktail bar represents one of the initial points of contact between the establishment and the traveller. Explorers, businesspeople, and curious individuals from around the world arriving at the hotel can create their own space of certainty, rediscovering in the Vermouth Carlo Alberto bottle, a symbol of reliability and excellence.
