‘Vino’ fail at Rugby World Cup stadium in Provence

A British sports fan has expressed her amazement that she was unable to get a glass of wine while watching a Rugby World Cup match in Provence.

According to the report in The Independent, Linda Russ was told there was no ‘vino’ available at the State Vélodrome in Marseille with only beer available for fans.

Despite being located in Provence, the facility didn’t appear to have any of its famous wines available for standard guests at the stadium, although the situation in VIP and other hospitality areas is unknown.

Ross claimed the irony of not stocking its most famous produce was missed by staff at the stadium, who simply “stared back at her with a blank expression and said “non” when she asked for a glass”, according to the news.

She said, coming from Bristol, that she expected the stadium to not have cider available, but was surprised that there wasn’t wine.

“The restaurants nearby had it, but there was none in the stadium. It was strange.” She told The Independent, “We asked for wine and they said no.

“The people serving were so young, we asked for “vino” and they couldn’t understand us at all. We even tried ordering vino blanc and vino rouge, but they didn’t understand us at all!”

The news follows other reports of the stadiums running out of beer, including at the State Vélodrome during the weekend, which featured the opening game of the World Cup for England and Scotland.
