Zonin1821 launches spritz and no-alcohol sparkling

Italian drinks giant Zonin1821 Group has launched two new products aimed at millennial and Generation Z consumers.

The two products, Zonin Limoneto Spritz, a pre-mixed 11% ABV aperitivo, and Zonin Cuvée Zero, a sparkling, grape-based alcohol-free beverage, have been primarily developed to target younger consumers through on-trade channels.

Speaking of the former, Francesco Zonin, the seventh generation of the Zonin family to be involved in the wine trade, said: “Our modern, yet classic take on a Lemon Spritz that’s making waves across the globe. We are proud to bring this new drink to the UK, with bold, energetic and authentic citrus notes which give a nod to Italy’s famous lemon growing regions. Whether you’re sipping by the pool, jetting off on holiday or visiting friends, our new spritz works for all dining and casual cocktail occasions.”

Charmat method-produced sparkling wine was combined with lemon juice to create an aromatic, refreshing drink best served over ice.

The company cites IWSR Drinks Market Analysis data to suggest that UK consumers in the 18 to 34 bracket are seeking “less hedonistic, gentler-paced drinking occasions”, and that Limoneto Spritz fits the bill.

A growing interest among younger people in being teetotal, or at least of more moderate alcohol consumption, is also why Zonin1821 is aiming its Cuvée Zero at Gen Z and millennials.

“Around the world, there are new consumers who love to explore new proposals in addition to the traditional wine,” Zonin explained. “And we are more than happy to seize these opportunities, interpreting our strong heritage ‘towards new tasty horizons’. Welcome to Zonin Cuvée Zero; 200 years of Italian family winemaking family tradition in a bottle of Italian alcohol-free bubbles that tastes like it ought to.”

The wine was de-alcoholised through the spinning cone column distillation method. Its taste is described as a “creamy mousse of pear and green apple, punctuated by light citrus and florals and a long finish that gives the sensation of alcohol.”
