db recommends: Real Italian Wine & Food
Real Italian Wine & Food (RIWF), the trade only gastronomic event taking place in Lindley Hall from 11am to 7pm on Thursday 20 April, will feature more than 50 wine producers from across Italy.
The assembled producers will be showcasing the viticultural diversity of Italy, from Alpine Piemonte in the north all the way to sunbaked Sicily in the south. In addition to well-known producers already represented in the UK, there will also be hidden gems from brands yet to make their way onto the UK market.
An abundance of grape varieties flourish in Italy, an estimated 2,000 in total, each with its own unique character and taste.
There will also be a masterclass at 11.30am from Richard Ballantyne MW on ‘Sicily: The New World of Italy’, showcasing fine wines from the largest island in the Mediterranean.
At 3.30pm, Ballantyne will be back with another masterclass, on another Southern Italian wine region – ‘Campania: mountains, volcanoes and coastline’.
Beyond the wine, a range of extra virgin olive oils, cheeses, pastas and other Italian food products will be showcased.
As previously mentioned, it is a trade only event and free to register for.
