US$400,000 of limited edition mezcal sells out in one night

At a private event for art collectors in Scottsdale, Arizona last week, all 20 bottles from Kimo Sabe Mezcal’s collaboration with graffiti artist AtZ, priced at US$20,000 each, were sold within an hour.

The collection was developed through a collaboration with American Fine Art (which represents the anonymous graffiti artist AtZ), America’s Fine Art Gallery, and Kimo Sabe.

AtZ’s bottle designs drew inspiration from the wider art world, as well as their own work. A particularly prominent influence was Andy Warhol, with the look of one bottle (and much of the decor of the room where the event was held) playing on his famous Campbell’s Soup Cans. There is also an accompanying NFT, a digital development which the brand claims puts it at “the intersection of an ancient culture and web 3.0”.

Jim Walsh, Kimo Inc. CEO and founder, said: “Kimo Sabe and our creative partners wanted the bottles and the artwork to be as varied as the aged agave flavours that go into our award winning mezcal. On opening night, collectors and spirit aficionados were overwhelmed by the beauty and electricity of the collection. The vision was to create a series of original bottles that combine art, culture, and mastery.”

Art enthusiasts eager to make a foray into bottle collecting may also be keen to invest in Kimo Sabe’s newly unveiled ‘Sacred Heritage Collection’, which packages rare six-and-a-half-year-old Añejo in bottles featuring hand-crafted healing art designs from the indigenous Huichol people of northern Mexico. The 1,888 bottles in this limited edition release also come with an NFT, and the profits will be split between the Huichol people and the company.
