Rare Restaurants to open three new Gaucho steak houses

Rare Restaurants is raising the steaks as it prepares to open three new Gaucho sites across the UK this year.

An illustration of what Gaucho Newcastle will look like.

New venues for the modern Argentinian steak house brand, which first opened in 1994, will be rolled out in London, Newcastle and, for the first time, Wales in the coming months. There are currently 12 Gauchos in London and other sites in Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Liverpool.

But from March, there will also be one in the north east of England, situated in a Grade II-listed building on Newcastle’s Pilgrim Street.

In May, Gaucho will then be coming to Cymru, with 8,500 square feet site across two storeys on Bridge Street in Cardiff. As well as the option for hiring out one of the floors, there will also be a Beef Bar with an Argentine steak tasting menu.

And then, in June, a 120-cover site will be opening in Covent Garden, with an extensive pre- and post-theatre menu and, for those not taking in the Royal Opera House or the West End, late-night entertainment intended to evoke Argentina’s tango halls.

Gaucho CEO Martin Williams said of the plans: With all the headwinds facing our sector (in London more than anywhere else) it would be easy to focus outside of London – but Gaucho was born in the West End. We have enjoyed fantastic post-pandemic trading in the capital and are beyond confident that Gaucho Covent Garden will be a triumph. Our recent openings in Glasgow
and Liverpool have been incredibly well received and I have no doubt that Cardiff and Newcastle will be too.”

In related news: Gobind Chona’s pan-Asian restaurant Gura Gura recently opened in Covent Garden.
