Jason Atherton’s The Blind Pig to launch storybook menu

Jason Atherton’s Soho cocktail bar The Blind Pig will be launching the next chapter of its storybook menu, inspired by classic children’s literature.

The menu will provide guests with a nostalgia-laden trip through the bookshelves of their youth with a series of playful cocktails that take inspiration from fairy tales, nursery rhymes and picture books, with the works of Roald Dahl, C.S. Lewis and Julia Donaldson represented. The leather-bound menu has a page devoted to each drink, with watercolour illustrations from Eleni Sofroniou that draw on the source material behind each of the dozen offerings.

Atherton said: “I’m very excited to bring back the next chapter of The Blind Pig’s Long & Short British Tails series. Inspired by my favourite childhood stories, The Blind Pig team has concocted a selection of 12 creative cocktails that bring these to life and give customers the chance to explore new ingredients and techniques but with a sense of childlike wonder that The Blind Pig so cleverly conjures with these menus”.

Among the cocktails is The Fizz Lift, a blend of Cazcabel Reposado
with dill, cranberry sherbert, Fair kumquat
and lemon liqueur, topped with Moet Chandon, as a chocolate-free ode to Willy Wonka. Cracking The Egg takes inspiration from Humpty Dumpty with a giant chocolate egg as garnish, and a sweet mixture of pumpkin and sage purée, red chilli maple syrup and muscovado sugar within.

For those who fancy something a tad stronger, Poisoned Apple thankfully doesn’t live up to its name, mixing Blend Rittenhouse Tawny Port, Vermouth Royal Blended cherry and apple essence smoke, and an absinthe-soaked cherry apple set on fire at the bar.
