Gran Orden de Caballeros del Vino announces three new members

In recognition of their contribution to the promotion of Spanish wine in the UK, the Gran Orden de Caballeros del Vino has announced three new knights.

The order was established by Wines from Spain in 1985 to recognise and reward those who have furthered the cause and quality of Spanish wine in the UK. Since then, 90 members of the wine trade (or those adjacent to the trade) have been invited to join.

Organised by ICEX, in collaboration with the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture under the Spain Food Nation campaign, the investiture dinner took place at The Savoy Hotel. Attended by (among others) the Gran Orden’s chairman Sarah Jane Evans MW and Spain’s ambassador to the UK José Pascual Marco Martínez, the dinner welcomed three new Caballeros to the order for 2022 (from left to right):

Catriona Felstead MW, senior wine buyer at Berry Bros. & Rudd. In 2017, she assumed responsibility for Spanish wine from previous buyer and Gran Orden member Simon Field MW.

Vicente Dalmau Cebrián-Sagarriga, general manager at Marqués de Murrieta winery. In 1989, he started work as head of exports for Marqués de Murrieta in Roja Alta, before taking charge in the 1990s.

Nieves Barragán Mohacho, chef and co-owner of Sabor. She spent 10 years as executive chef of Fino and Barrafina before leaving in 2018 to open Sabor in Mayfair with business partner José Etura. Eight months after opening it received one Michelin Star.

Upon the announcement, acting chancellor Elisa Carbonell said: “We are delighted to gather today to welcome these three distinguished Caballeros to the Gran Orden de Caballeros del Vino. Together we celebrate the successes of the Spanish wine industry, as the love that British people have for Spanish wines goes from strength-to-strength.”
