González Byass announces new CEO
After 16 years at the company, Jorge A. Grosse is to end his term as CEO this December. From the beginning of 2023, César Sánchez Moral will take over the role.
González Byass currently comprises of 14 wineries in Spain, Chile and Mexico, in addition to three distilleries and international distribution set-ups. Much of this globalisation has been driven by Grosse during his leadership.
It is also noted that he has had a profound influence upon the company – particularly in terms of embracing comprehensive digitisation and promoting sustainable practices with the 5 + 5 Caring for the Planet programme.
Grosse’s departure had been mutually agreed with the González Byass Board in 2016, when it was decided that he would take charge of the next two consecutive strategic plans. In 2019, the company achieved a new record for its turnover, setting the bar at EUR€309million. The first six months of the current fiscal year show figures similar to pre-pandemic results.
Reflecting on his time with the family-owned sherry bodega, Grosse said: “all of this has been possible thanks to the team I have built at GB: high-level, highly integrated and committed”.
Moral, departing CEO of Rioja winery Barón de Ley, has also worked for Heineken and Suntory. He has experience of working across Europe, as well as in Latin America and Africa. He will determine the direction of the company’s new strategic plan.
Earlier this year the chairman of González Byass, Mauricio González Gordon, was elected president of the Comité Européen des Entreprises Vins.
