Bonhams celebrates ‘outstanding” sale of Burgundy fine wines
Bonhams sold an “outstanding” single-owner collection of Burgundy fine wines for £638,000 in its latest fine wine and spirits sale last week.
Wines from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti featured prominently in the sale, including three bottles of Romanée-Conti 2000, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, which sold for its top pre-auction estimate of £48,800. Other highlights in the sale included six bottles of La Tâche 2000, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, outstripping its top estimate to reach £30,500 and three bottles of Montrachet 2000, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, which sold for £23,180 (estimate: £14,000-16,000).
There were also parcels from other high profile producers, including six bottles of Chambertin 2005, Domaine Armand Rousseau, which sold for 26,840 (estimate: £18,000-22,000), a dozen Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru, Clos St Jacques 2015 from the same producers, which sold for £20,740 (estimate: £12,000-14,000), and wines from Comte Georges de Vogüe.
Bonhams senior international director of wine, Richard Harvey MW called it a “superb collection of the most desirable Domaines and vintages” from Burgundy.
“The wines had great market appeal and I was not surprised they proved so attractive to collectors,” he said.
The total sale raised £860,000, the auction house said, with around 96% sold by value, although only 75% sold by lot.
