Former Guinness staffer reveals they would be sent death threats any time a new product launched

While Guinness will always be synonymous with its iconic stout, in recent years the brewer has expanded its reach into new and exciting products. For some, it would seem, this is no cause for celebration.

Guinness Cold Brew Coffee Beer

Yes, Guinness has been in the innovation game of late. With releases such as Guinness 0.0% hitting store shelves and the much-heralded Guinness Microdraught providing a perfect at-home pour, the brewer has ensured that it is keeping pace with consumer sentiment.

However, as one former member of staff at Guinness has revealed, not everyone is happy when a new offering comes to town.

Taking to Twitter, James Parker (@panoparker) wrote, “I used to do social media for guinness and any time they launched a new product fans would send death threats so I would like to pray for the team today as they launch their coffee beer”.

“Won’t be drinking it myself but some heads out there will love this and if that gets more people drinking guinness then so be it,” he wrote in a follow-up tweet.

And the general timbre of the responses seemed to be utter bafflement that anyone could take the release of a mildly coffee-imbued stout quite so painfully to heart.

“Coffee stouts have been around since the 90s soo it’s hardly groundbreaking soo it’s mad that people will get all pissed off like they’ve done some new hipster thing! I wonder what they’d think of some of the beers I’ve had!?” One Twitter user pointed out, while a second added, “I do social media for big brands like this and it’s surprisingly common”.
