Aeos Auctions debuts in Hong Kong offering daily online auctions

With a vision to make wine auction sales more accessible, Hong Kong auction house Aeos Auctions has launched, bringing daily online auctions, seasonal live auctions, and community wine workshops to the city.

Led by Simon Tam, former Christie’s Head of Wine, Asia, the new Aeos Auctions aims to create a new generation auction house that welcomes wine lovers of all levels.

Apart from wines to collect, the auction house also offers wines that are ready to drink at a diverse range of prices. Tam and his team hold a passion for demystifying the auction process and wider wine industry, hoping to foster a community of “like-minded individuals who can come together to share and develop their wine knowledge”.

The auction house hopes to set itself apart from typical industry players by offering consignments of ready-to-drink wines from both established and emerging winemakers alongside consignments sourced from serious wine collectors.

Prestigious names from Bordeaux Classed Growths and Grand Crus Burgundy alongside household names from Napa Valley and Margaret River have already matured in the bottle, ensuring that wines auctioned can be enjoyed right away. Additionally, collections of once-in-a-lifetime opportunity wines, from famed terroir and historical estates, will be available as well.

When it comes to bidding, the team wants to create an efficient, fully automated online auction platform with rolling auctions lasting one week with new wines added daily so buyers always see something new. The online system is designed to help bidders win their desired wines at the lowest price possible.

The daily online auctions are personally hosted by Simon, who shares his expertise to ensure that bidders know what they’re paying for and have fun while doing it, providing wine valuation enhanced by his knowledge on how much the wine should really cost, based on factors like provenance, scarcity, and condition. The team would want to help buyers in choosing wines that truly suit their needs and let them know what they are really buying.

Aeos Auctions’ first live auction will be held at on 22 January 2022 at Bacchus wine & restaurant and will showcase a single private owner collection of pioneering Burgundies from the acclaimed Domaine René Engel.
