The week in pictures

This week in the world of drinks: a girl gang take-over of Manchester’s Junior Jacksons to engage fresh new talent in hospitality careers, Errazuriz Toasts International Wine Photography Day with pictures from Errazuriz Wine Photographer of the Year, and Douglas Blyde visits 1857 The Bar for unforgettable Port.

The team behind Manchester’s purpose-led drinks firm Ten Locks held a female networking event this week to enable existing and aspiring talent in the hospitality industry to network and build relationships.

Penny McMylor, part of the Ten Locks team said: “It was such a delight to see female bartenders forming new friendships, supporting each other and discussing the  challenges for women in drinks. Everyone came together over bloody good drinks and we let our hair down. We believe this is an excellent start for a group that can grow and encourage women to look at hospitality, particularly bartending, as a viable and supportive career choice.”

This Friday 12th November marks #WinePhotographyDay, and Errazuriz is celebrating the day by sharing some remarkable images from the world of vinous photography.

As part of the celebrations and for your inspiration, the social channels of Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year will be sharing images from Errazuriz Wine Photographer of the Year.

Here are some pictures to whet your appetite.

Formerly of Azurmendi, the affable, curious and clever, Uruguay raised, Gonzalo Rodriguez Diaz returned to the under the radar, Seven Park Place restaurant at the St. James’s Hotel and Club earlier in the year as Food and Beverage Manager, in time to open ‘1857 The Bar’, referring to the year The Club was created. This art rich lounge offers an altar displaying, alongside a particularly tall stilton under cloche, one of the most hallowed selections of Port in a London bar, ranging from Graham’s 1882 Ne Oublie to Graham’s 1990 Single Harvest Lodge Edition and what Rodriguez Diaz describes as ‘a cask sample’ of Cockburn’s 1969 single harvest, hitherto unavailable to purchase anywhere else in the world. Douglas Blyde found its flamboyant aftertaste lasted longer than a lockdown. stjameshotelandclub.com

Camden Town Brewery has announced the launch of its first ever Christmas campaign, including a TV spot, out of home, on and off trade activations.

The ad features hypnosis-style graphics and is intended to ‘Giftnotise’ the nation’s worst gift givers into thinking fresh this season and gift never pasteurised Camden Hells instead. It will debut on 15 November.

And finally, Tidal Rum has created the British Isles’ most southerly bar.

On a sandbank in the Minquiers, the bar was created as part of their mission to create elevated experiences that reflect Tidal Rum’s sense of adventure. The remote cocktail bar was operational for two hours before the tide came in, and guests were taken by Jersey Seafaris to enjoy three Tidal Rum cocktails, the Tidal Fresh Lime Soda, the Daiquiri and a Shakerman special, ‘the Rockpool’.
